WhatsApp is a follow-up channel, not a broadcast channel
In India it consistently outperforms email for follow-up — and consistently annoys people when used as a mailing list.

Where it works
Enquiry follow-up, appointment reminders, order and delivery updates, document collection and re-engagement after a missed call. Response rates are high because the message arrives where the customer already is.
Where it fails
Untargeted promotional broadcasts. Opt-outs and reports damage sender quality quickly, and a blocked number is much harder to replace than a blocked email address.
Set it up properly
Use the official Business API through a provider, keep templates approved and specific, and route replies to a human within business hours. An unanswered WhatsApp reply is worse than no message at all.
